Q

What does DNA helicase do?

A

It causes the hydrogen bonds between the complementary bases to break which causes the two polypeptide strands to separate from each other (unzip)

Q

What happens 2nd during transcription?

A

Free nucleotides line up with their complementary bases on the DNA strands, which are only held in place by hydrogen bonds between the complementary bases. Theses are called activated nucleotides.

Q

What happens 3rd during transcription?

A

A second enzyme called DNA polymerase now attaches, this moves down the group and catalyses the formation of a phosphodiester bond between the activated nucleotides. (bonds in the backbone)

16
Q

What happens last during translation?

A

First tRNA detaches from amino acid, ribosome shifts along to read next codon, process repeats until a STOP codon is read.

17
Q

What is semi-conservation DNA replication?

A

New DNA molecule compromised of one original strand and one new strand.
