Module 2 Flashcards
What are proportional calculations?
Calculations that involve using a known ratio to determine the strength or volume of a similar ratio, where one of the values (strength or volume) is unknown
What is the definition of a ratio?
Relative magnitude of two like quantities
What is proportion?
expression of the equality of two ratios
ex) 1:4 is the same as 4:16
How are proportions solved?
By cross multiplying (both sides must equal each other)
What does the accuracy of a proportion depend on?
Identical unites being used in each of the ratios (same units on both sides)
What is dimensional analysis?
a problem-solving method that applies needed equivalents and unit-conversion factors to ensure that the terms of an equation have the same dimensions
What is the basic equation for dimensional analysis?
Given quantities and units X equivalents and unit conversion factors = answer in desired units
Reducing or Enlarging factor equation
Red/enlarging factor = Desired qty / qty given (if factor is less than 1, then reducing; if greater than 1, then enlarging)
