Module 19 Lesson 2 Flashcards
Parenchyma plant cell
Functions are:
Storage
Photosynthesis
gas exchange
protection
tissue repair and replacement
Collenchyma plant cell
Functions are:
Support
Transport materials
Sclerenchyma plant cell
Functions are:
Support for surrounding tissues
providing flexibility for plant
tissue repair and replacement
Meristematic plant tissue
where the plant is growing, spreads throughout the plant
Dermal plant tissue
layer of cells that makes up outer covering of a plant, protects plant
Vascular plant tissues
transporting water, food, and dissolved substances throughout plant
Epidermus - Dermal Tissue
boundary from outside to help protect cell, controls what goes in and out
Stomata - Dermal Tissue
Opens and closes to allow gases in and out of plant
Guard Cells - Dermal Tissue
Cells that open or close the opening of the stomota
Trichomes - Dermal Tissue
Protects plant from predators by guarding leafs with toxins, reflects light, etc.
Xylem - Vascular Tissue
Transports water from roots to leafs
Made from vessel element and Tracheids that are both tubular and cylinder plant cells allowing different materials to move through them
Phloem - Vascular Tissue
Transports glucose from photosynthesis
Made from sieve tube members and companion cells
Roots
Anchors the plant and absorbs nutrients and water from the soil
Root Cap
protects the roots tissues and the meristem
Located at tips of roots
Herbacious Stems
Green and flexible
