Baseball suture
Most secure suture. Commonly used. Can be airtight. Injection site incisions, long surgical, and long bone donor incisions
Lock suture
Leaves an unsightly ridge -Leak proof-Needle is fed through the loop each time -Passed around both sides from the outside. Do not use in areas that will be viewable.
Whip suture
The continuous suture is used mostly to close long incisions It is used by the autopsy tech to close long incisions from the autopsy. This suture prevents leakage.
Worm suture
The inversion suture is used to gather in and turn under excess tissues. The pattern of this suture is the same as that of the single intradermal suture except that the stitches are made parallel to the incision edges and do not pierce the margins of the incision. Not visible suture for closing carotid incision or closing the sclp on the cranial autopsy.
“N” stitch
-Surgical drains and devices-Punctures-Trocar punctures . Depends on the size of puncture or incision and may need trocar button to close or multi puncture.
Purse string suture
Stitch is strung around the out side of the puncture “like a circle”Depends on the size of puncture or incision and may need trocar button to close
