MODULE 1 (FORMS AND NATURE OF COMMUNICATION) Flashcards
“Communication is an intercourse by words, letters, symbols or messages; and is a way that one organization member shares meaning and understanding with another.”
Koontz and O’Donnell
“Communication is a sum of all the things one person does when he wants to create understanding in the minds of another. It involves a systematic and continuous process of telling, listening and understanding.”
Allen Louis A.
“Communication is an exchange of facts, ideas,
opinions or emotions by two or more persons.”
Newmann and Summer
(2009, 7) defines messages a collection of symbols that appears purposefully organized (meaningful) to those sending and receiving them.
Turow
It is a communication that happens to you. Here both the Source (sender) and the receiver are just one. So, the feedback works without interruption. For example, a person may communicate through pain, thought, feelings, and emotions, etc.
Intrapersonal communication
Two people are involved in this contact phase of this communication. Here the Source becomes the receiver and the receiver becomes the Source because of the complex communication mechanism where feedback is exchanged between the Source and the receiver
Dyadic Communication
More than two participants participating in the communication process would become a communication group. In this communication process, everyone becomes a Source as well as a receiver by exchanging information and providing feedback to others.
Small Group Communication
Sources or communications from a single person can meet or receive a wide number of audiences. But there is no shared input between the source and the recipient in this conversation, just like a small group conversation, and it is based on the Speaker.
Public Communication
They have a huge number of audiences, and they cannot all be put together in one place, so we need some communication mechanism device or technology.
Mass Communication
