Module 1 -Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
It’s studies the structure of body parts.
ANATOMY
studies the function of the body
PHYSIOLOGY
the process of breaking down complex molecules into simpler ones, which releases energy
Catabolism
Anabolism
is the process of building up complex molecules from simpler ones, which requires energy
Pertaining to upper or lower limbs of the body
Appendicular
The body is straight in the standing position, eyes looking straight ahead, arms hanging by the side, palms facing forward
Anatomical Position
Pertaining to the head, neck, and trunk of the body
Axial
The body is lying down on its back with face pointing upwards
Supine Position
The body is lying in a horizontal plane face-down with the back upwards
Prone Position
Lengthwise cut that divides the body into right and left portions
Sagittal Plane
A horizontal cut that divides the body into superior and inferior portions
Transverse Plane
A vertical cut separating the body or organ into anterior and posterior sections
Frontal Plane
Towards the front
Anterior
Towards the back
Posterior
Towards the head, above another part
Superior
Towards the feet, below another part
Inferior
Towards the sagittal plane, closer to the midline of the body
Medial
Away from the median plane, farther from the midline of the body
Lateral
Refers to a pair of structures, one on each side
Bilateral
glands,hair,nails,
Integumentary System
Epidermus, Dermis, then Hypodermis
Layers of skin
The study of bones
Osteology
Skull, rib cage, vertebral column, and spinal cord.
The Axial Skeleton
Pectoral girdle and Pelvic girdle
The Appendicular Skeleton
provides attachment for arms and hands
Pectoral girdle
provides attachment for hind limbs
Pelvic Girdle
