Module 1 Flashcards
what is distance
the total length covered in a journey
what type of quantity is distance (w/ definition and example)
scaler quantity - a measurement that has a magnitude (number) only. e.g. 3km, 450 cm
how is distance calculated
by adding all distances together that are stated
what is displacement
the straight line length from start to finish of a journey with a direction stated (((( the length between start and end point)))
what type of quantity is displacement (w/ definition and example)
Vector Quantity - a measurement with a magnitude and direction e.g. 50km east, 100km/hr backwards
how is displacement calculated
by SOHCAHTOA or (velocity x time = displacement)
Explain how quadrant bearings work
the compass is divided into 4 quads (N,E,S,W) and measured from angle 90 degrees from North or South
What is SPEED
THE TOTAL DISTANCE TRAVELED OVER A PERIOD OF TIME
what is average speed and how is it calculated
an overall measure that ignores stops/changes in the speed of a journey
distance over time
what is instantaneous Speed
The speed of an object at a certain time
What is VELOCITY
the overall displacement of an object from its starts position over a period of time (with direction)
how is velocity calculated
displacement over time
