Deficiency needs
Describe the first tier of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
Physiological: biological needs for survival such as food, water, shelter
Describe the second tier of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
Safety: protection from the elements, financial/physical security, law and order, freedom from fear
Describe the fourth tier of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
Esteem: self-respect, achievement, independence, status, prestige

Love and belonging: Involve interpersonal relationships: friendships, intimacy, trust, belonging to a group

Infancy: birth-2yrs. roll over, sit up, begin to walk
What is the second stage in Gessell’s theory of physical development?
Early childhood: 2-6yrs. Significant improvements in gross and fine motor skills, can print name by 4 y/o, dress/undress
What is the third stage in Gessell’s theory of physical development?
Middle childhood: 6-10 yrs. gain weight and height slowly, permanent teeth, organized sports, improved handwriting
What is the fourth and final stage in Gessell’s theory of physical development?
Adolescence: 10-18 yrs. Weight and height increase rapidly, increase in hormones impact behavior, may reject authority
