List the five classes of lipid and water-soluble hormones and identify the components of each.
LIPID SOLUBLE:
- Steroid Hormones (The ride from cholesterol)
- Thyroid Hormones (Iodine atoms + tyrosine)
WATER SOLUBLE:
- Amines (Modified amino acids)
- Peptides & Proteins (Chains of amino acids)
- Eicosanoids (Derived from fatty acids)
State the big ideas for Endocrine Health.
- Endocrine is a system of complex relationships. Always support the whole as well as the parts.
- Respect the endocrine individuality of each client.
- Always address The Foundations first.
Describe how each of the foundations support the endocrine system.
DIGESTION:
-Digestion provides; Good Fats (including EFA’s), Quality Proteins, Unrefined Complex Carbohydrates and Minerals that make up the building blocks of hormones.
BLOOD SUGAR:
-Keep in mind that any attempt to normalize hormonal and balances is futile until blood sugar/adrenal issues are addressed.
FATTY ACIDS:
-EFA’s And other bats are critical to the entire endocrine system (The body cannot make hormones without fats).
MINERALS:
-Every endocrine organ has a mineral on which it is particularly dependent.
HYDRATION:
- Hydration supports the efficient transport of hormones throughout the body.
- Hydration in shores proper viscosity of the blood and interstitial fluids.
Describe how a chronic stress response degrades the Endocrine System.
BASIC CONCEPT:
A Chronic Stress Response —-> Chronic Output of CORTISOL
- The Liver Takes a Hit
- The Pancreas Takes a Hit
- The Endocrine System Takes a Hit
Describe and perform the Functional Evaluations for the endocrine system. (PITUITARY / HYPOTHALAMUS)
PITUITARY / HYPOTHALAMUS POINT:
-The ridge between the eyebrows (the 3rd eye)(A>P).

OVARIES/TESTICLES
INSIDE ARCH-OVERIES/TESTICLES POINTS
-Bend clients foot slightly to reveal the apex of the arch, it is on the transition between the sides and bottom of the foot, on the edge of the bone.
CHAPMAN REFLEX-OVERIES/TESTES - Pubic Symphysis (Inner)(S>I)
-Place both index fingers together at the midpoint of the pubic bone. The palpation is on the superior edge of the bone, pushing down.
Describe and perform the Functional Evaluations for the endocrine system. (PROSTATE/UTERUS)
MEDIAL HEEL-Prostate/Uterus Reflex:
-Locate the point halfway between the Malleus (ankle bone) and the medial aspect of the Calcaneus (heel bone)(small indentation). Press laterally (R&L).
CHAPMAN REFLEX - ILLIOTIBIAL BAND (Prostate/Uterus):
-Middle third portion along the iliotibial band at the point where the clients finger tips will reach. Palpate approximately 2” superior & 2” inferior. (Overlaps part of the Chapman Colon Reflex)
CHAPMAN REFLEX (PROSTATE/UTERUS) - Pubic Symphysis (Outer) -Place both index fingers together at the midpoint of the Pubic Bone and then move them laterally the width of 1-2 fingers. The palpation is on the superior edge of the bone.(S>I)(R&L).
Describe and perform the Functional Evaluations for the endocrine system. (BREAST TENDERNESS)
BREAST TENDERNESS:
Ask the client to palpate their own breast tissue being sure to palpate all quadrants of the breast. Ask them to describe any tenderness. Ask question; “do you experience breast tenderness during your period?“, and “Are you currently having your period?”

Describe and perform the Functional Evaluations for the endocrine system. (THYROID)
CHAPMAN REFLEX - THYROID: (2nd R-L)
-Second intercostal spaces, next to the sternum. (A>P)(L & R)(Determine whether the client is more likely to have a hypo vs. hyper thyroid in order to LNT)
COSTAL MARGINS TENDER TO PALPATION-THYROID:
-Palpate the mid memory line at the Costal/Chondral margins (S>I). Finish by palpating across the bottom and up the medial aspect of both ribs.
PRETIBIAL EDEMA-THYROID INDICATOR:
-Press firmly into bone for 2 to three seconds (1/3 of the way between the anklebone and the knee) then run your finger back over the spot very lightly to feel the depression.
Describe two ways HRT or BHRT can exacerbate endocrine problems.
