MODES OF ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION Flashcards
What are the different modes of asexual reproduction ?
- Budding
- Fission
a) Binary fission
- Irregular binary fission
- Regular binary fission
* Transverse binary fission
* Longitudinal binary fission
* Oblique binary fission
b) Multiple fission - Fragmentation
- Regeneration
What is budding and give example of the organism which show this mode of reproduction ?
In budding the small projection arises from the parent body which mature and then get detached from the parent body as a new individual.
Example -
Unicellular organism - yeast etc.
Multicellular organism - hydra etc.
Which organism show fission and what are the types of fission ?
Example - Commonly reported in monera and Protista
Types of Fission –
a) Binary fission
- Irregular binary fission
- Regular binary fission
* Transverse binary fission
* Longitudinal binary fission
* Oblique binary fission
b) Multiple fission
Which organism show these mode of reproduction
* Transverse binary fission * Longitudinal binary fission * Oblique binary fission
- eg - Diatoms , bacteria , paramecium
- eg - Euglena
- eg - Dinoflagellates = eg - ceratium
What is fragmentation ?
Parent body gets split up into fragments and then the each fragment grow to produce new organism
example -
- Filamentous algae(spirogyra) and fungus
- Protonema of moss
- Hydra
What is regeneration ?
It is the ability to regain the lost part.
eg - Lizard , Planaria(true regeneration)
