Modern Materials Flashcards
What are some modern materials?
Graphene, metal foam, liquid crystal display, coated metals, nanomaterials, titanium
What are 2 uses of graphene?
Any 2 from: energy storage, sensors, coatings, composites and biomedical devices
What are 2 uses of Metal Foam?
Aeroplanes and automotive industries
What are 2 uses of Coated Metals?
Preventing corrosion or rust, can give no-stick properties
What are 2 uses of nanomaterials?
Scratch-resistant glass and sunblock
Is Titanium an alloy?
Yes
How does a Liquid Crystal Display work?
A backlight provides light to individual pixels by varying the levels of red, green and blue light
What are 2 uses of Titanium?
Any 2 from: Missiles, Space and aircraft, artificial joints
Why is titanium suitable for artificial joints.
It has a high strength allowing it to resist pressure and act like a bone, its lightweight so doesn’t affect how much weight your body has to carry and it resists corrosion which is important if it will be placed in your body.
