Industrialism
Where an increasing popularity in producing products by machine in lieu of people occurs. It develops into the backbone of an economy, replacing trade and agriculture.
Pan-nationalism
Where a people who share a common cultural and linguistic heritage revise national boundaries in order to unite.
Imperialism
Where a greatly influential power conquers lands for only the purpose of exploitation of its resources.
Communism
A political ideology that was developed by Karl Marx and Freidrich Engles. The idea was that no property was specifically owned by anyone. Instead, it was owned by all, regardless of dividing factors. Supposed to help achieve social and economic equality.
Sectarianism
The opinion that one religion is superior to others.
Racism
The opinion that a specific race/colour is superior to any other races and colours.
Liberalism
A view that aims to create a society that promotes individuals, and not classes, and their rights to freedom of political, religious, intellectual and artistic opinion. Also includes a parliamentary democracy and a free enterprise economy.
Revolution
A rapid and extreme change to political and social structure. Often consists of over throwing a current government or replacing a ruler.
Autocracy
A type of government that consists of one central ruler that withholds all authority and refuses to share or have any limits to it.
Capitalism
A system of economy where the means of production, distribution and exchange are privately owned and operated for private benefit.
Nationalism
Strong loyalty to one’s own nation regardless of the wellbeing of other nations.
Democracy
A system of government where adult citizens vote for their governing representatives and to stand for election.
Decolonisation
Where a nation removes foreign control.
Socialism
An idea that encourages the right that the people have a right over the ownership and distribution of a nation’s resources and wealth.
Self-determination
Where a people or a nation can control their own future without the interference of a foreign power.
