• the sensory register acts as a filter only if attention is payed to the information it will be transferred to our STM
• our STM is were we are consciously aware of information but it is only temporary. Information will be held for 18-30 secs and only 7-/+ 2 items can be held at one time
• information must be attended to in the rehearsal loop to avoid decay or displacement so it will be transferred to our LTM for pernament storage
• information will need to be retrieved back to our short term store so it can be used again
