Remove 18-24 inch and wind it up around index finger until there is 1 inch of floss between your two fingers

lay the resident n his side with the head of bed slightly elevated
to open mouth use a wooden Tounge depressor with gauzes dressing
slowly/carefully insert about a 90 degrees angle
Oral care with Partial dentures
first re,pve the partial plate
next brush natural teeth and use mouthwash
next clean the partial plate as you would full dentures
Oral care with dentures
Dentures first must be removed
Always remove top plate first
place denture in a cup or emesis bath
rinse with mouthwash
you can clean the inside of the mouth with an oral swab if she is unable to swish and spit
how to remove denutres
slide your index fingers along the top gum line all the way till the gum line
once you feel the end of the denture plate hook your finger around it
pull down if it is a top plate
push up if its a bottom plate
Cleaning dentures
A special toothbrush is utulzied to clean denutres
First place barrier on sink or fill sink with water
Once plates are cleaned keep the denutrs in cup of place in mouth
Going to sleep with denutes
some prefer to sleep with or without dentures
if they do not want t sleep with them
- fill the storage cup with half mouthwash and half water or just water
Putting in dentures
- the top 2. the bottom
Washing hair in tub and shower
if in shower asl resident to hold towel over eyes and tip head back
In the tub you’ll need a pitcher ask the resident to cover eyes and tip head back
Washing hair in bed
line the head of bed with incontinence pads
place trough on top of pads
position head lying on trough
roll dry towel under her neck
place bucket or basin on floor
dry and comb it, style it as needed
medicinal shampoos
Form of antidandruff shampoo
Rinnelses hair wash
disposable caps that are heated via microwaveable
after warm test the temp
ask resident if temp is comfortable
place cap on head and massages hair and scalp for 1 to 2 min
when is Nail care performed?
usually perfmoed on bath day
completed as needed
- fingertips are dirty, have rough and uneven edges
nail care on no shower days
- soak and wash hands in washbasin or wash them with a wet soapy washcloth
- use an oranges stick to clean underneath the nails
- use flat end
once nails are cleaned and trimmed, shape them
Diabetic nails
may not trim them
not in scope of practice
you must ask nrs to do this
foot care
resident bath day
soak in water again or washcloth
trim and shape them
after apply lotion
do not rub lotion between toes
Checking skin during footcare
check skin for pressure injuries, cracks, and rashes
for diabetics they can develop sores o their feet
when is shaving done and what can help with loose skin?
usully need to be shaved everyday
having residetn put in dentures before should hjelp with loose skin
blood thinner and shaving
use an Eletric razor
Eletric razor proper usage
make sure it is clean
take screen off and look inside
once clean place screen on
turn the razor on and using a flat head razor gently moved across skin
moving in direction of hair growth
move razor downward over the cheeks, upper lip, chin, and upward over neck
if has multiple heads: use a circular patter to shave face and neck
clean screen and plug in for next use
dispoable razor
shaving cream should be latherer on face 1
shave in direction of hair growth
once done wipe the resident face w/ wet washcloth to remove excess shaving cream
look for shaving nicks, apply pressure to areas and report to nrs
some women ask, do the same producer as a man
