What does Le Chatelier’s principle state?
When a system in equilibrium is subjected to a change in concentration, temperature, external pressure, or some other factor which upsets the equilibrium, the system reacts in such a way as to counteract that change and achieve a new equilibrium state
What happens to a system at equilibrium if you increase pressure
the equilibrium will shift to the side with fewer gaseous moles
What happens to a system at equilibrium if you decrease pressure?
equilibrium will shift to the side with more gas particles
What happens if you increase the concentration of the reactants?
forward rate of reaction increases and equilibrium shifts to the right
What happens to a system at equilibrium if you decrease the concentration of reactant
reverse rate of reaction will increase and equilibrium will shift to the left
what happens to a system at equilibrium if you increase the concentration of products?
the rate of reverse reaction increases and equilibrium shifts to the left
What happens to a system at equilibrium if you decrease the concentration of the products
rate of forward reaction increases and equilibrium shifts to the right
what happens if you increase the temperature of an exothermic reaction at equilibrium?
Reverse reaction is favoured and equilibrium shifts to the left. There is also a decrease in Keq
What happens if you decrease the temperature of an exothermic reaction at equilibrium?
forward rate of reaction is favoured and equilibrium shifts to the right. Keq increases.
what happens if you increase the temperature of an endothermic reaction at equilibrium
increase in forward rate of reaction and equilibrium shifts to the right. Increase in Keq
what happens if you decrease the temperature of an endothermic reaction at equilibrium
increase in reverse rate of reaction and equilibrium shifts to the left. Decrease in Keq
What happens if you add a catalyst to a reversible reaction?
Equilibrium will be attained faster.
what happens on a graph if there is an increase n concentration or partial pressure of one substance.
sudden increase in one substance
what happens on a graph if there is a decrease in concentration or partial pressure of one substance?
sudden decrease in that one substance
what happens on a graph if there is a increase in volume/decrease in pressure of a system?
sudden decrease in all gaseous species
