Q

Literalist view on creation

A

They believe the bible is 100% true and reject science. They believe genesis one is true and that god took 7 days to create earth. They do not believe science is compatible with Christianity and may let this belief influence their lives by refusing pain medication during birth because god said “with pain you will give birth to children”. They may also prevent their children from learning about science at school because it contradicts their beliefs.

Q

Non-literalist view on creation

A

They believe the story of creation is a metaphor and that “let there be light” is a metaphor for the Big Bang. Genesis 1 is merely a description of what happened condensed into 7 days. They believe science and Christianity are compatible. Non-literalists may educate their children on science and the world around them more than a literalist.
