Festivals
Wesak= Life and teachings of the Buddha
Parinirvana= enlightenment of the Buddha
Five moral precepts
Refrain from taking life= they won’t kill or harm animals/ people.
Refrain from intoxicants= no drugs/ alcohol/ medicine
Refrain from wrong speech = no gossip or being horrible
Death rituals
(Tibet) sky burial= chuck a body off a cliff, let vultures eat remains, they gain good karma when eaten.
Cremation= keep bones on shrine for good karma
Wrap in white cloth= face them west towards pure land
Shrines
Rupa= Buddha statue for reminder.
Meditation= chanting= mindfulness + enlightenment
Offerings= fruit/ candles/ incense/ flowers = shows respect,= good karma

Samatha= Calming/focusing/ shrines/ breathing = concentrates the mind
Vipassana = visualisation (Rupa, sand patterns)/ walking/ breathing

Refrain form sexual misconduct (5 moral precepts) =some monks are celibate and do not have sex or get married.
To not harm living things = Buddhists are pacifists and do not partake in violence/ they are also vegetarian and may refrain from working on places like farms or butchers.
Nirvana teachings
Not a physical place= a state of total peace, where you cease to exist. (Impermanence/ Annica)
Ends the cycle of samsara (death and rebirth)= follow eightfold path (right mind/ right acts) which is the only way to reach nirvana.
The marks of existence (why are they important)
Dukkha (dissatisfaction) =everything leads to suffering= Buddhists have to accept that everything causes suffering in order to reach full understanding and reach nirvana.
Anatta (no soul) = Buddhists shed their personal identity and accept that they are not individuals to become monks and enlightened.
Annica (impermanence) = Buddhists accept that nothing stays the same in life.
