mock Flashcards
describe the plum pudding model
a sphere of positive charge with electrons embedded into it
Put electrons, neutrons and protons in order of when they were discovered
first- electrons
second- protons
third- neutrons
How many outer shell electrons does the element tenessine have and why?
7 because it is in group 7
Explain the making salts required practical 1
- add a fixed amount of hydrochloric acid into a beaker and add zinc carbonate while stiring
- keep adding zinc carbonate until it doesnt dissolve in the solution anymore(this means it is in excess)
- filter out the excess zinc carbonate using filter paper
- gently heat up the solution over a bunsen burner until it starts to crystalise
- remove from the bunsen burner and leave to crystalise
What is meant by the term ‘weak acid’?
has only been partially ionised in an aqueous solution
What colour change happens to litmus paper in acid
blue- red
why are metals good conductors?
Electrons carry charges and since metals have delocalised electrons, they move through the metal and carry a charge
why are pure metals better conductors than alloys
in alloys, the atoms are different sizes which disrupts the structure and limits the movement of electrons
Is sodium more or less reactive than aluminium?
more reactive
How would you convert cm to dm
divide by 1000
Concentration=
moles/volume
Why is argon in group 0?
they have a full outer shell which makes them stable so they dont need to transfer electrons
100kg=
100 000 g
volume of gas=
mol x 24
