Mobility
During performance of everyday activities- Moving from one position or place to another such as in bed mobility, wheel chair mobility, transfers performance of functional ambulation and transporting objects
Transfers
wheelchair, bed, car, tub, toilet, tub/shower, chair, floor
Community Mobility
moving self in the community and using public or private transportation, such as driving, or accessing buses, taxi cabs or other public transportation systems
Hierarchy of Mobility
- Mobility for ADLs before IADLs
- Transfer in home before transfer to car
Levels of assistance
Independent Modiffied Independent Supervision Contact guard/stand by assist Minimal Moderate Maximal Total or dependent
Independent
No assistance; safe
Modified independence
Requires assistive devices or extended time
Supervision
- Verbal cues for safety
- No touching
- Arm’s length away at all times recommended
Contact Guard / Stand by assist
Hands on guarding
Minimal assistance
- Help with 25% of task with physical and verbal assist
- Client performs 75% or more
Moderate assistance
- Help with 50%
- Client performs 50%-74%
Maximal Assistance
- Help with 75%
- -Client performs 25%-49%
Total or dependent
- Help with 75% or more
- Client performs less than 25%
