MOA Flashcards
Saturated solution of potassium idodine (SSKI)
temporarily inhibits secretion of the thyroid hormones, effect will not be maintained
Propylthiouracil (PTU)
Thionamide
inhibits the synthesis of thyroid hormones by blocking oxidation of iodine, inhibits peripheral conversion of T4 to T3
methimazole
Thionamide
inhibits the synthesis of thyroid hormones by blocking oxidation of iodine, inhibits peripheral conversion of T4 to T3
Levoxyl
Levothyroxine (T4)
Is a thryoid hormone
**Drug interactions = PPIs, antacids, sevelamer, sucralfate (Al, Mg, Ca, multivitamins)
**beta blockers, amiodarone, PTU, and steroids will decrease the effectiveness of levothyroxine
**estrogen, SSRI, hepatic inducers will decrease thyroid hormones
HIGHLY protein bound > 99%
may increase warfarin efficacy (increase INR)
