MNT 2 Flashcards
What are the 3 phases of gastric secretion?
Vagus nerve (cranial nerve X) fibers in medulla stimulate the PNS of the stomach.
1.Cephalic- (20%)sight, smell, taste, thought of food// sensory and mental input
2.Gastric- (50-60%) Food activates activity by stretching receptors
3.Intestinal- (5-10%) duodenum enhances acid secretion but soon inhibits.
HCL, Gastrin, Somatostatin, and Ghrelin are produced where and do what?
HCL: parietal cells-activates pepsin, kills microorganisms, denatures PRO
Gastrin: G cells- stimulates acid release, muscle contractions, and growth of stomach lining
Somatostatin: Gastric D cells- inhibits gastrin and released upon stomach emptying or pH too high
Ghrelin: Enteroendocrine cells- stimulate appetite and promote fat storage, stimulates growth hormone from pituitary
What are some of the stomach’s defense systems?
- Expansion to 4L
- Mucosa coating
- Tight cellular junctions
- Pepsin and HCL by acid and pH
- Prostoglandins
What is gastroparesis?
Accompanied with erratic blood glucose think about it..
Delayed stomach emptying related to slow or little to no stomach contactions. Can be caused. By inadequate blood flow to stomach during digestion, nerve damage (drugs/ surgery), physical alterations. Nitric oxide synthase is necessary in enteric nerve to relax the pylorus
A high CRP in lab work could mean?
An inflammatory response in the body
