MMT Specifics Flashcards
Scapular elevation
Ge: prone, OT support under shoulder
Seated, “lift your shoulders towards ears” and you press down
Scapular depression
Ge: already gravity eliminated
Prone. Palms up? “Have fingers reach your feet” push humerus up, stabilize scapula
Scapular adduction
Ge: sitting erect with humerus abducted at 90
Prone. “Arms straight out, bend elbow. Raise elbow towards ceiling.”
(Similar to shoulder abduction)
Scapular abduction
Ge: sifted erect with humerus flexed at 90
Supine. Raise arms towards ceiling, bend elbow with hand towards ears.
Push elbows down.
Shoulder flexion
Ge: sidelying with arm along side in mid position, OT support under elbow.
Seated. Raise arm over head. Come down mid position.
Push down humerus stabilize shoulder
Shoulder extension
Ge: side lying with arm to side of body, internal rotation
Seated. Reach back (shoulders internally rotated). Push humerus stabilize shoulder
Shoulder Abduction
Ge: supine with arm supported at mid position elbow supported
Seated. Externally rotated. Raise arms to the side as high as you can. Stop at mid position. Push down humerus stabilize shoulder.
Shoulder adduction
Ge: can only be estimated.
Supine. Abducted at 90. Raise arm away (palms touching thigh) from body and back to side. Pull humerus stabilize shoulder.
Shoulder horizontal abduction
Ge. Seated with humerus supported at 90 flexion elbow straight supported
Similar to scapular adduction. Prone. Arm out elbow 90 shoulder off mat. Raise elbow towards ceiling. Push down humerus.
Shoulder horizontal adduction
Ge. Seated. Arm abducted.
Supine. Have patient cross chest. Pull at distal humerus stabilize shoulder.
Shoulder internal rotation
Ge: seated. Humerus abducted elbow 90
Prone. entire arm dangling off mat palm down, elbow 90. Lift palm of hand toward ceiling. Push forearm down. Stabilize distal humerus.
Shoulder external rotation
Ge: seated. Humerus abducted elbow 90
Prone. entire arm dangling off mat palm down, elbow 90. Lift back of hand of hand toward ceiling. Push forearm down. Stabilize distal humerus.
Elbow Flexion
Sitting with arm supported by therapist in 90 degrees of abduction and elbow extension
Elbow Extension
Sitting with humerus supported in 90 degrees of abduction, elbow fully flexed
Forearm
Pronation
Sitting with humerus flexed to 90; the elbow is flexed to 90 and supported, and forearm is in full supination, wrist and fingers are relaxed
