- Resistance: distal end of forearm, pull out into extension - Brachioradialis
- Starting position: forearm/hand in midposition like holding a beer
- Palpate: radial side of the proximal forearm
- Resistance: distal end of forearm, pull out into extension
Elbow Extension
- Triceps
- Palpate: posterior surface of the humerus
- Resistance: make sure elbow is not locked, push at the proximal end of the posterior forearm to flex elbow
Forearm Pronation
- Pronator teres
- Palpate: medial to the distal biceps tendon on the anterior side of the proximal forearm
- Resistance: weird handshake thing where you hold their forearm
Forearm Supination
- Supinator
- Palpate: dorsal surface of the proximal forearm, near head of radius
- Resistance: resist on forearm from dorsal side
Wrist Extension
- Extensor carpi radialis longus (ECRL)
- Palpate: tendon, dorsal surface of wrist, base of the 2nd metacarpal
- Resistance: back of the hand on radial side, push into flexion and ulnar deviation - Extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB)
- Palpate: tendon, dorsal surface of wrist, base of 3rd metacarpal
- Resistance: back of the hand, push into flexion - Extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU)
- Palpate: tendon, dorsal surface of the wrist, between head of ulna and base of the 5th metacarpal
Wrist Flexion
- Flexor carpi radialis (FCR)
- Palpate: anterior side of the wrist, in line with 2nd metacarpal
- Resistance: metacarpals on the palm - Palmaris Longus
- Palpate: will stand out on anterior side of wrist if flexion is resisted or thumb/pinky opposition, may not be present
- Resistance: metacarpals on the palm - Flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU)
- Palpate: anterior surface of the wrist, ulnar side
- Resistance: head of the fifth metacarpal toward wrist extension and radial deviation
Finger Metacarpophalangeal Extension
- Extensor digitorum
- Palpate: dorsal-ulnar surface of the proximal forearm, tendons are on dorsum of the hand
- Resistance: use one finger, push head of proximal phalanx - Extensor indicis (EI)
- Palpate: mid to distal dorsal forearm between radius and ulna, tendon is ulnar to ED tendon
- Resistance: use one finger, push head of proximal phalanx - Extensor digiti minimi (EDM)
- Palpate: tendon is ulnar to ED tendon
- Resistance: use one finger, push head of proximal phalanx
Finger Distal Interphalangeal Flexion (DIP)
- Flexor digitorum profundus (FDP)
- Palpate: just volar to the ulna, proximal 1/3 of forearm
- Resistance: one finger on pad of their finger
Finger Proximal Interphalangeal Flexion (PIP)
- Flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
- Palpate: volar surface, ulnar side, proximal forearm
- Resistance: use one finger, head of middle phalanx
Finger Abduction (MP)
- Dorsal interossei (there are 4)
- Palpate: first is in webspace between first finger and thumb, dorsal side of hand
