MMT Flashcards
Hip Flexion MMT
Position: sitting
Resistance applied proximal to the knee on the anterior
Stabilization on the pelvis (opposition side)
Tested muscles: psoas major, iliacus, rectus femoris
Hip extension MMT
Position: Prone w/ trunk flexed over a table and the knee flexed
Resistance applied proximal to the knee on the posterior thigh
Stabilization at the pelvis
Tested muscles: gluteus maximus
Hip Abduction MMT
Position: Sidelying
Resistance: Proximal to the knee at the lateral side
Stabilization at the pelvis
Tested muscles: Gluteus medius, gluteus minimus
Hip Adduction MMT
Position: Sidelying
Resistance: Proximal to the knee at the medial side
Stabilization at the pelvis
Tested muscles: Adductor longus, adductor brevis, adductor magnus, gracilis, pectineus
Hip Lateral Rotation MMT
Position: Supine w/ knees off the end of the table
Resistance: Distal tibia at the medial side
Stabilization: Knee at lateral side
Tested muscles: Obturator, Gemellus, Quads, Piriforms
Hip medial rotation MMT
Position: supine w/ knees at the end of the table
Resistance: Distal tibia at lateral side
Stabilization: Knee at medial side
Tested muscles: Gluteus medius, gluteus minimus
Plantarflexion MMT
Position: Prone lying w/ foot over the edge of the table (to isolate soleus, flex knee to 90 deg.)
Resistance: Posterior surface of the forefoot
Stabilization: Rearfoot
Tested muscles: Gastroc, plantaris, soleus
Dorsiflexion and Inversion MMT
Position: Sitting w/ knee flexed over the table
Resistance: Medial aspect of the forefoot
Stabilization: Hindfoot
Muscles: tibialis anterior
Inversion MMT
Position: Sidelying w/ bottom leg to be tested w/ the ankle off the table
Resistance: Medial border of the forefoot
Stabilization: lower leg
Muscles: tibialis posterior
Eversion MMT
Position: sidelying w/ top leg to be tested w/ ankle off table
Resistance: Lateral border of the forefoot
Stabilization: lower leg
Muscles: peroneus longus, brevis, and tertius
Knee Extension MMT
Position: semi-sitting w/ hip flexed 5-45 deg. and the knee flexed to 90
Resistance: Anterior tibia just proximal to the ankle joint
Stabilization at the thigh
Muscles: Quads
Knee flexion MMT
Position: Prone w/ hip flexed in neutral rotation and the knee flexed to 10 deg.
Resistance: posterior proximal to the ankle joint
Stabilization: at the thigh - if weak, flexion will occur at the hip
Muscles: Hamstrings
