Validity Scales
CNS
Cannot Say (?): omissions due to lack of cooperation, defensiveness, lack of insight, obsessiveness, reading difficulties or confusion, etc.
VRIN
Variable Response Inconsistency: detects random responding, hypervigilance
TRIN
True Response Inconsistency: detects fixed responding, acquiescence or counter-acquiescence
F
Infrequency: identifies over-reporting due to intentional or unintentional over-reporting, random or fixed responding, severe psychopathology or severe distress
Fb
Back (Side) Infrequency: detects changes in responding from F to Fb, due to intention or unintentional over-reporting, random or fixed responding, severe psychopathology or severe distress, and fatigue
Fp
Infrequency Psychopathology: possible malingering by intentional over-reporting, random or fixed responding
L
Lie: claiming excessive virtue and designed to detect intentional under-reporting, possibly due to intentional under-reporting, lack of insight, very traditional values and beliefs, and indiscriminate “false” responding
K
Correction: defensiveness, reservations, designed to detect unintentional under-reporting. Possible reasons include defensiveness, denying symptoms, problems, and negative characteristics more than the average person, psychological well-being, ego strength, and psychological resources.

Superlative Self-Preservation: tendency to present as highly virtuous, responsible and free of psychological problems
