Q

What is the experiment for chromatography?

A
  1. Draw a line near the bottom of the sheet of filter paper?
  2. Add a spot of ink on the line and place the sheet in a beaker of solvent - water?
  3. The solvent used depends on whats being tested
  4. Make sure the ink isn’t touching the solvent
  5. Place a lid on it
  6. The solvent seeks up
  7. Each different die in the ink will move up the paper in a different rate so the dyes will separate out.
  8. If any of the dyes are insoluble they will stay on the baseline.
  9. When the solvent has reached the top of the paper, take the paper out and leave it to dry.
The end result pattern of spots will be called a chromatogram.
