mixing desks Flashcards
what does foldback refer to?
musicians monitoring
what is the difference between a split desk and an inline desk?
split desk, separate sections for inputs, monitoring, grouping etc
inline desk has all 3 in the same strip/channel like studio 2
hybrid desk is a combination of these two desk designs
which 4 functions are found before the signal reaches eq, insert or fader?
high pass filter, pad, phase invert and gain
which 2 desk subsystems route multiple signals out of the desk and to the channels themselves?
groups and auxiliaries
name 3 main modes of soloing channels
AFL - like SIP but in mono, after fade listen
PFL - ignores faders, pre-fader listen
SIP - sent to monitor bus with stereo position in place
what does pre fader mode imply?
moving the fader will not impact the level being sent to the auxiliary
what does post fader imply?
moving the fader or send level will change how much signal is sent to the auxiliary
auxiliary takes its signal from the channel and its fader position
give 2 uses of grouping
route all channels assigned to a group via a group fader to the inputs of a recording device
or routing channels to a group fader to control their overall level, keeping their individual fader positions
give the signal path through an input channel
gain, pad, hpf, phase invert
eq
insert send a return
pre fade aux sends
fader
post fade aux sends
routing matrix - create separate mixes
