What are the 5 global parameters on a compressor
Threshold Ratio Attack Release Make-up Gain
What is a compressor
in effect, it can be thought of as an automatic fader. It is used to proportionately reduce the dynamics of a signal that rises above a user-definable level (known as the threshold) to a lesser volume range.
Threshold, in compression
this setting determines the level at which the compressor will begin to proportionately reduce the incoming signal.
Ratio, in compression
determines how much to reduce above the threshold
Attack, in compression
determines how fast or slow the compressor will turn down signals that exceed the threshold.
Release, in compression
determines how fast or slow the compressor will restore a signal to its original dynamic level once it has fallen below the threshold point.
Make-up Gain
takes the whole signal and pushes it back up if needed.
