mitosis xx Flashcards
how many chromosomes do humans have?
23 pairs (diploid)
how many chromosomes do gametes have
just 23 (haploid)
how and why are new diploid cells made?
made by mitosis, for growth and repair
what’s stage 1 of mitosis?
genetic material duplicated (interphase), nucleus membrane dissolves (prophase)
what’s stage 2 of mitosis?
the two sets of chromosomes line up in middle (metaphase) and are then pulled. to opposite sides of the cell (anaphase)
whats stage 3 of mitosis?
mitochondria, ribosomes and other organelles and duplicated, and new membranes are formed around the two sets of chromosomes to make. two nuclei (telephone)
whats stage 4 of mitosis?
the cell divides (cytokinesis), producing two genetically identical diploid cells
