Mitosis & Tissues Flashcards

1
Q

What is the cycle of life in a cell?

A

It will go through a series of changes from the time it is formed to until it reproduces its own cell.

Q

Interphase has three subphases, the first subphase is Growth G1, what are the other two?

a. Mitosis & cytokinesis
b. Growth, DNA synthesis & Growth and final prep for division
c. Reproduction & Mitosis
d. Mitosis and growth, dna synthesis.

A

The three subphases of Interphase are:

  1. Growth G1
  2. Growth & DNA synthesis S

Q

What is the Mitotic phase of the life of a cell cycle?

A

In this phase cell division occurs to form 2 new identical daughter cells.
It will repair damaged tissues

Q

Why do cells need to undergo mitosis?

A

As the cells grow and become bigger, they will get to large for the cell membrane to complete transport processes and continue the supporting the cell, so it will undergo mitosis and form two identical daughter cells.

Q

A permanent cell is only able to undergo mitosis after a person is born, what are the other two cell types?

A

Labile - constantly undergoing mitosis

Stable - undergo mitosis only when an external factor indicates they should.

13
Q

Metaphse is the second phase of mitosis, the mitotic spindle now attaches to the chromosomes, what do the chromosomes do?

A

They line up along the middle of the cell, called the equator.

Q

Anaphase is the third phase of mitosis, where the centromeres split causing the chromatids to seperate, what are they now known as?

A

Once split the chromatids are now known as a single chromosome.

16
Q

In telophase the chromosomes unravel to form loose chromatin, what forms around these?

A

A new nuclear membrane forms around 2 new chromatin and then the mitotic spindle breaks down.

17
Q

What is the process of cell division between gametes called?

A

Meiosis

18
Q

In fertilisation a sperm cell and an oocyte join to form a ______?

a. gamete
b. meiosis
c. zygote
d. diploid

A

It is called a zygote and they must have 23 pairs of chromosomes.

19
Q

There are 2 phases of cell division in Meiosis. What phase is different and how?

A

Meiosis 1 and 2.
Meiosis 1 has the 4 same stages as mitosis but the one difference is the double chromosomes line up in pairs on either side of the cells equator.
