Nuclear division of the somatic (body) cells
what is the process of mitosis?
-when the nucleus divides to form two nuclei
-the two nuclei are identical to one another as well as the parent cell
what is a Haploid 1N?
when you half the diploid number to get the haploid number
what is Diploid 2N?
when you double the haploid number to get the diploid number.
Cytokinesis is also know as?
the division of the cytoplasm
What happens in Cytokinesis?
Animal cells form a cleavage furrow and plant cells form a cell plate.

90% of the time
During Interphase what is it growing to do?
Its preparing for cell division
3 stages of Interphase?
(G1) Growth; organelles double
(S) Synthesis (to make); DNA replication
(G2) Proteins needed for cell division are made
what happens to the nucleus during prophase?
it disappears
what happens to chromatin in prophase?
it condenses into chromosomes
what happens to centrioles in prophase
the centrioles appear and move to opposite poles
what stage is prophase opposite of?
Telophase
what phase do spindle fibers form?
prophase
What happens to the nucleus in the Telophase stage?
it reappears
