Mitosis And Meiosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is Mitosis?
A
Nuclear division that gives rise to two
genetically identical cells.
2
Q
What is Meiosis?
A
Nuclear division that gives rise to four genetically
different cells.
3
Q
Mitosis is used for.
A
Used in:
Growth.
Cell reproduction during development.
Repair of damaged tissues.
Asexual reproduction.
4
Q
Mitosis process?
A
During:
The chromosome copies separate and the nucleus divides.
A copy of each chromosome ends up in each of the daughters (new) cell.
This means that each daughter cell is “deployed” and the original “chromosome number” is “maintained.”
5
Q
Diploid
A
A Diploid nucleus is a nucleus that contains two sets of chromosomes.
6
Q
Haploid
A
Is a nucleus containing a single set of unpaired chromosomes.
