mitosis and cell cycle Flashcards
1
Q
centromere
A
the dot inbetween the chromosomes
2
Q
in metaphase what happens
A
-spindle fibres attach to the centromeres of the chromosomes
-this aligns the chromosomes at the equator of the cell
-each sister chromatid is attatched to the opposite pole
3
Q
what occurs in prophase
A
the chromaTIN condenses into pairs of sister chromaTIDS, joined together at the centromere.
4
Q
chromatids and chromotins
A
chromotins condense into chromosomes
this then each has a sister chromotid
5
Q
how can you tell a cell is in metaphase
A
the chromatids are aligned at the equator of the cell, and spindle fibres attach to each of the centromeres
