Mitosis Flashcards
What is mitosis
Mitosis is a types of cell division in which a diploid cell copies itself and finally divides into two identical diploid daughter cells.
What are the stages of Mitosis?
Interphase Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase Cytokinesis
Interphase
The cells spends most of its life in this phase. The DNA in chromosomes copies itself ready for mitosis
Prophase
In prophase the DNA in chromosomes and their copies copies condenses to become more visible.
The membrane around the nucleus disappears
Metaphase
The chromosomes and their copies Lineup in the middle of the cell
Anaphase
In anaphase the chromosomes and the copies a pulled to different ends of the cell
Telophase
New membranes from around the chromosomes at each end of the cell
Cytokinesis
The cell membrane pinches in and eventually Divides into two daughter cells
What is the haploid cell
A haploid cell have half a set of chromosomes
What is a diploid cell
A diploid cell has a full set of chromosomes
What is meiosis
Meiosis is a type of cell division that creates sex cells with half the genetic information
