Mitosis Flashcards
What is the cell cycle?
- The cell cycle has two stages: the growing stage and the division stage
- As a cell prepares to divide, the chromatin thickens, shortens, and becomes chromosomes.
What are sister chromatids?
- When one unduplicated
chromosome duplicates it may also be described as two sister chromatids
What are sister chromatids held together by?
The Centromere
What is a gene?
A segment of DNA that
carries information that helps to
produce a particular trait of an
organism.
What is a locus/loci?
When Genes are located at specific positions on the chromosome, it is called a locus (loci).
What is the name of genes that code for a trait that may be expressed
and can be turned on and off?
Exons.
What are filler genes called?
Introns.
What are alleles?
Alleles are different versions of one gene.
What is the difference between asexual and sexual reproduction?
How many stages does the cell cycle have?
Two cycles:
Growing stage & Cell Division Stage
What are the stages in the mitotic phase?
Prophase -> Metaphase -> Anaphase -> Telophase
