Mitosis Flashcards
why do cells need to divide/ reproduce?
or your body to grow and for body tissue such as skin to continuously renew itself
Draw and label the cell cycle. Where does mitosis fit in?
draw
What is cytokinesis?
cytoplasms split into two new cells after telophase.
Describe the cells produced through mitosis.
Mitosis produces two identical daughter cells with the same genetic information as the parent cell.
What happens if cells undergo too much
Cancer, tumers.
These cells can take over but don’t function properly.
They keep making copies without any control.
This can result in cancer.
Prophase
- Chromosomes become visible
- Nucleus membrane disappears
- Centrioles begin to move to poles
Metaphase
- Chromosomes line up at equator
- Spindle fibres are attached to centromeres
Anaphase
Spindle fibres pull sister chromatids apart
telophase
- Chromosomes are separated
- Nuclear membrane reforms
- Cell plate or cleavage furrow forms
Lable Mitosis – know the names and main events occurring in prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase
