Mitosis Flashcards
Mitosis:
It is a process that allows a single eukaryotic cell to divide and produce two genetically identical daughter cells. Mitosis is essential for growth, development, tissue repair
Steps of mitosis
PROPHASE: NUCLEUS BREAKS DOWN, CENTRIOLES MOVE TO OPPOSITE ENDS OF CELL, DNA CONDENSES TO FORM DISTINCT CHROMOSOMES
Metaphase:
CHROMONES ARE STACKED ON TOP OF EACHOTHER IN MIDDLE OF CELL, EACH CHROMOSOME IS ATTACHED TO A SPINDLE FIBER BY THE CENTROMERE
ANAPHASE:
CHROMATIDS SPLIT AT THE CENTROMERE, SPINDLE FIBERS BEGIN TO DISAPPEAR
Telophase:
NUCLEAR MEMBRANE REAPPEARS, CHROMOSOMES DISPERSE INTO CHROMATIN CYTOKINESIS DIVISION OF CYTOPLASM, CELL PINCHES IN HALF, DIVIDING INTO TWO DAUGHTER CELLS
