Mitosis Flashcards
Mitosis definition
Cell division of two identical daughter cells, identical to the parent/original cell. Needed for repair and growth. Has
The Cell Cycle (Interphase)
G1: Stage where cells grow and does its job
S: Stage where the DNA(chromosomes) is replicated
G2: Stage where the replicated chromosomes are checked for mistakes
The Cell Cycle (Mitosis)
Final cell cycle stage/s where the replicated chromosomes are separated and divided into two new daughter cells
Semi conservative replication
One half of the new DNA molecule is an intact strand from the parent (old) DNA
Factors affecting the rate of reaction of mitosis
SALE
Stage of life (high rate when organisms are under doing growth and repair)
Availability of nutrients and energy
(Certain substances are required to replicate a cell. If not available, replication slowed or stopped)
Location of cell (Higher rate of mitosis if locations are in specific areas where most growth or replacement of cells is occurring)
Environmental factors (Rate of mitosis affected by factors that affect enzymes e.g. temp, pH, salt)
