Mitosis Flashcards
What are the three first sub stages in the cell cycle (interphase)
G1-growth
S-synthesis
G2-preparation
What is the 1st stage of mitosis
Prophase - centrioles move to opposite ends of cell and fibres extend to form mitosis spindle - chromosomes visible
What is the second stage of mitosis?
Metaphase - spindle fibres align chromosomes along cell equator
What is the third stage of mitosis?
Anaphase - paired chromosomes separate at centromeres - sister chromatids on opposite sides
What is the fourth stage of mitosis?
Telophase - chromosomes no longer visible- chromatids at either pole of cell and nuclear membrane around daughter nuclei
What happens in the last stage of mitosis?
Cytokinesis - fibre ring composed of actin (protein) forms around centre of cell and contracts to pinch cell into two daughter cells
What is G1?
Biosynthesis for rapid growth and organelles and proteins are synthesised
What is S?
Where dna is synthesised and the content of dna doubles - chromosomes separate to chromatids
What is G2?
Where more cell growth occurs and organelles divide, chromosomes begin to condense and energy stores are prepared
