A
Type of cell division.

What is a gene?
A
Sequence of DNA, smaller than a chromosome.

A
Tightly coiled strips of DNA; contained in nucleus.

What is the cell cycle?
A
Time frame of how quickly cells divide.

Why might mitosis occur?
A
For cell growth, tissue repair, replace damaged cells and asexual reproduction.

1st stage of mitosis
A
DNA replicated, and the cell grows bigger.

2nd stage
A
The nucleus disappears and chromosomes line up at center of cell.

3rd stage
A
Cell fibers (spindles fibers) pull each arm of the chromosome apart onto left and right part of cell.

4th stage
A
A new nucleus forms around each set of chromosomes.

5th stage
A
Cytoplasm pinches around the nucleus and splits into two creating an identical pair of daughter cells
