How does carbon capture storage work?
CCS uses technology to capture CO2 emissions from coal-fire powered stations and industry.
Once captured, the carbon gas is compressed and transported by pipeline to injection well.
It’s then injected as liquid into reservoirs then it is injected in liquid form into suitable geographical reservoirs to prevent it from entering the atmosphere.
Negative regarding CCS?
Viewed on suspicion because of its economic viability.

In 2014, Boundary Dam in Canada’s Saskatchewan Province became the first commercial, carbon capture power plant.

How did Sri Lanka modify photosynthesis?
In the 1900s, Sri Lanka lost 76% of its mangrove forests, so the government aimed to protect 21,000 acres of this forest die to its ability to absorb more CO2 than other forests.
What is recognised as a method of reducing CO2 emissions by the IPCC?
Plantation forests (which comprise 7% of global forest area) are hugely effective carbon sinks, in comparison to ordinary forests. These plantations forests remove more CO2 from the atmosphere through photosynthesis and then store it in their biomas.

How do Brazil modify their deforestation?
In 2005, landowners were required to preserve 80% of forests. Infringements are punished by fines / prisons. So far Brazil has reduced deforestation to 70% and has reduced carbon emissions by more than any other country.

This is because mangroves absorb more carbon than other forests and fix CO2 into the soil where it is stored for 100s of years. They also don’t burn due to the swampy environment and lack of fuel.

It is where one type of crop is replaced by another that has greater productivity and can absorb more carbon from the atmosphere.
