A psychological disorder where someone
1) Pretends to be ill
2) Deliberatley produces symptoms of illness themselves
3) Main intention is to assume a “sick role”

- So they can be cared for/ center of attention.
What are the 3 MAIN features of Munchausens syndrome?
- Pathological lying
- Peregrination

- Behaviour that is compulsive, frequent and difficult to stop

Define Malingering
- a FACTITIOUS disorder
- When someone tries to make themselves unwell or pretends to be unwell for an incentive (disability allowance)
How is Malingering different from Munchausens?
- Munchausens= no external incentives. There is only a psychological benifit if assuming the sick role.
