What is the APA’s position on multiple relationships?
A multiple relationship is not, in and of itself, unethical. Nor must it be avoided.
Multiple relationships that would not reasonably be expected to cause impairment or risk exploitation or harm are not unethical.
Is the BOP concerned with protecting the interests of licensed psychologists?
No, the board acts in the interests of consumers of psychological services, not providers.
Do patients who are court-ordered to attend treatment retain the same rights to confidentiality?
Yes. When such patients come to therapy, psychologists should secure full informed consent, just as they do with all other patients. Generally, the court does not require comprehensive treatment reports, but simply evidence that therapy was attended.
When providing telehealth services, what does the business and professions code say about obtaining consent?
Prior to the delivery of health care via telehealth, the health care provider initiating the use of telehealth shall inform the patient about the use of telehealth and obtain verbal OR written consent from the patient for the use of telehealth as an acceptable mode of delivering health care services and public health.
