When do you create a MISLE case?
Not more than 1 hour after receiving initial notification.
What do you open a MISLE case for?
Each discrete incident, regardless of the CG response.
There are the 1-5 incidents for which you create a MISLE case. What are they?
- Incident involving HQ notification.
- Incident that requires the use of the SNO process.
- Incident which the CG is requested to render assistance with SAR.
- Any pollution incident and each pollution incident has its own case.
- Incident that requires a UOF report.
How many major Incident types in MISLE are there?
Eight types with dozens of sub-types
What are the major Incident types?
- Admin

What is the easiest way to create a case in MISLE?
Through the use of notification
For any subject type in MISLE, what shall the user do?
Complete a thorough check of MISLE prior to creating a new subject.
For each case, every unit involved that has internet connectivity shall do what?
Every unit shall open an IMA.
Attach it to the appropriate case in order to record their unit’s actions.
How many IMAs shall a unit have per case?
No more than one.
How long shall a single IMA be kept open?
For the length of the case, regardless of the length of the case or number of the watch changes
How should the majority of non-urgent reports be logged?
By using a Timeline Entry
What are the three entry types of a MISLE case?
Action, Event and Condition
What are the three ways to create a case in MISLE?
- Through the MISLE home screen.
- Through an IMA
- Through a MISLE notification
Whose responsibility is it to create the MISLE case, have an IMA attached, and ensure other units record their activities?
SAR Mission controller/Incident Commander
How many digits are in a MISLE case number?
Six
When shall a unit close a case?
When every related activity has been associated with the case and the case has been reviewed.
There are three SITREP formats. What are they?
201-SITREP
LE SITREP
SITREP -POL
What is the 201-SITREP for?
Appropriate for all SITREPs except the other two are used
What is the LE SITREP for?
Applicable for LE cases where there is a complete boarding activity associated with the case. If not, use the 201-SITREP.
How do you enter information on the Reporting Parties in MISLE?
- Select the Find Party in MISLE button
- Search for the Parties, use MSN or MMLD
- Use % after the last name
Are users allowed to add or modify information?
Yes, if they are sure of the party entry due to SSN or other means.
Are licensed mariners already added in MISLE?
Yes, do not add licensed mariners as new parties.
What reporting party information is especially critical?
Phone numbers and addresses
What is a CG-2692
Report of a Marine Casualty
Once the MISLE case has been reviewed by the SMC/IC reveiwer, what happens?
The status is changed to CLOSE- W/O Prejudice.
What constitutes a minor pollution case?
- For inland oil cases, spills of less than 1K gallons
- For coastal oil cases, spills of less than 10K gallons
- For non-oil pollution releases, any quantity of hazardous substance, pollutant or containment.
What constitutes a medium Inland oil case?
- Spills between 1K-10K gallons

What are non-oil pollution cases classified as?
Minor or major.
What constitutes a major Inland Oil case?
- Spills > 10K gallons.
2. Coastal Oil cases, spills > 100K gallons
What is a major SAR case?
- Involves loss of life/property
- Lives/property saved
- Lives/property unaccounted for
- Any case that requires use of SAROPS to calculate drift datum.
- A case that has high media/political interest.
- Any case involving the shift of SMC to a higher level.
What does MISLE stand for?
Marine Information for Safety and Law Enforcement
What are the MISLE incident types 6-11?
- LE action against a FV
- LE action with multiple units, boardings or sightings
- A request for assistance with protected marine resources.
- LE case involving drugs or migrants.
- Reported interaction between CG unit and marine life.
- Incident where security measures have been circumvented, eluded, or violated at a MTSA regulated facility or vessel, but did not result in a Transportation Security Incident.
