Long, spiral shaped bacteria
Very difficult to culture
Not easy to view with light microscopy
Often diagnosed by serology
Can cause syphilis and Lymes disease

Syphilis
A
Primary stage - non painful skin lesions
Secondary syphilis - 6-8 weeks after primary symptom, generalised rash and systemic illness
Latent phase
Tertiary syphilis - affects CNS
