What is the serial position effect?
A
Theory by Glanzer and Cunitz in 1966 which is also known as the primary recency effect. It is explains how we recall the first things we learn (primary) and the most recent thing we learn (recency).

How can the serial position effect be applied to teaching?
A
Knowing that students are likely to learn more at the start and end of the lesson rather than in the middle, teachers should teach the most important information at the start and end of lessons and then use the content in the middle to revise over more frequently.
