Q

Describe how to perform Handpiece safety checks

6 mins

A

Inspection

  1. Ensure back cap cannot rotate (grip and turn anticlockwise)
  2. Pull the bur to ensure fully engaged (insert bur, secure, pull)

Safe to use
1. Fit handpiece to coupling and apply tension to ensure secure

Fit for use

  1. Check bur spins freely (rotation - spin/roll along fingers)

Q

Describe the differences between types of sterilisers and their tests

6 mins

A

Type N - non-vacuum, passive air removal. For unwrapped solid instruments

Type B - vacuum, active air removal. For packaged/wrapped instruments including hollow, lumped and porous.

Cycles - air removal, sterilising, drying, cooling

Tests
Daily - steam penetration. Chemical test strip (type N), Helix/Bowie Dick (type B). Wipe clean, change water and perform ACT daily.
Weekly - cleaning efficacy. Protein test strip (type N), vacuum leak and air detector function test (type B).
Quarterly/annually - engineer (validation tests)

Parameters - 134-137C, 2-2.3 bar, min 3 mins.

Sterilised - visible clean, package colour change (brown to blue), Helix/Bowie Dick colour change (yellow to blue). In unsure, re-process starting from WD/manual cleaning
