clinical presentation of parvovirus

A

erythema infectiosum

  1. viraemic phase
    - fever
    - malaise
    - myalgia
    - chills
    - itching
  2. Immune Complex
    - rash
    -‘slapped cheeks’ appearance
  3. targets erythroid progenitor celsl
    - lysis of cells = anemia

– pts with chronic hemolytic anemia & immunocompromised can cause aplastic anemia; pregnant pts can cause severe anemia in fetus (non-immune hydrops fetalis)
