Arginine Vasopressin (AVP) – previously known as Antidiuretic hormone (ADH).
What is the role of aldosterone?
Increase rate of sodium reabsorption.
What condition will cause a positive reagent strip blood result due to hematuria?
Glomerulonephritis
What could cause a false negative on the Bilirubin portion of urine dip stick?
Ascorbic Acid (Vit C) or exposure to light
What could cause a false positive on the blood portion of the urine dipstick?
Bleach, or other oxidizing reagents

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C)
What might an alkaline urine pH tell you?
Maybe “old” urine, or sometimes seen after eating (in response to HCl secretion)
What is the single best indicator of early disease involving glomerulus?
Protein.
Can also be increased after strenuous exercise.
Granular cast seen. Disease?
*Can be seen in people who strenuously exercise too.
Can also be found when remained longer in the tubules. Further disintegration will turn into waxy casts.
Renal Disease
Hyaline case seen. Disease?
Some are normal in urine.
dehydration, renal disease, exercise.
Waxy cast seen. Disease?
Indicative of urinary stasis.
severe/chronic renal failure and can be due to allograft rejection.
Bilirubin crystals seen in? Disease
Acid urine, liver disease
Leucine crystals seen in? Disease
Acid-Neutral pH urine
Liver disease, Maple Syrup Disease
Cysteine Crystals seen in? Disease
Acidic urine
Cystinuria
Confirmatory test for urine protein?
Acid (Sulfosalicylic acid test)
