Briefing a Scene Guard - (SRCRAB)
Secure the Scene -
deny any persons access unless they are authorised by O/C investigations/Scene
Record Details -
maintain crime scene log - name, designation, purpose of visit…etc
Control Movements -
ensure everyone entering scene use common approach path/ Supervised during visit.
Record all Movements -
all movement, vehicles to and from, near the scene in crime log.
Avoid Disturbance -
Do not enter/Contaminate the scene, use toilet..etc
Brief others -
promptly communicate any relevant info received to C/C Scene as appropriate.
What is the difference between a charge of ‘Receiving’ and ‘Accessory after the fact’ (AATF)
AATF - The prosecution must prove that possession of the property was obtained for the specific purpose of assisting the thief to evade justice.
Receiving - Property is received with guilty knowledge or recklessness but it is not necessary to prove the receivers specific intent.
What is a Victim Notification Register (VNR)
A process set up by agencies to notify a victim of a serious offence who wishes to be notified about bail, release, escape or the death of an offenders or defendant.
Who can go on the Victim Notification Register (VNR)
The victim of an offence that is:
Sexual or Serious Assault
Results in a serious Injury, Death, as a result becomes incapable.
Causes ongoing fears to physical safety of themselves or immediate family.
Define ‘Victim’
A person whom an offence has been committed by another person and suffers:
- Physical injury
- Loss or damage to property
- Parent of child who suffers the above unless they are:
- charged, found guilty, convicted of the offence concerned.
If someone is charged with a Sexual Offence, what information are they entitled to:
Victims Name
Victims age
That an investigation is under way
The nature of that investigation.
If someone is charged with a Sexual Offence, What information can be withheld:
Residential, Postal and Email addresses
Home, Business, mobile and fax numbers
